First minute goalkeeper howler? Check. Questionable officiating? Check. Relive the delightfully odd 2015 MLS Cup Final with Eight by Eight’s exclusive match photos.
If you placed a bet on Portland Timbers attacker Diego Valeri pickpocketing Columbus Crew goalkeeper Steve Clark in opening seconds of the 2015 MLS Cup Final, I’d suggest a permanent relocation to Las Vegas. No one predicted that the last match of the 2015 MLS season — featuring two of the league’s most exciting teams — would be such a delightfully weird display of football.
Two Timbers goals — one from Valeri and the other from winger Rodney Wallace — gave the visiting side a 7th-minute lead that would prove to be insurmountable. Though Columbus managed to score once (after another goalkeeping error, this time from the usually steady-handed Timbers keeper Adam Kwarasey), the Timbers prevented an equalizer and were crowned 2015 MLS Cup Champions.
It was definitely not the best game of the season, but it was one of the most fun. Relive the game with this photo essay from friend of Eight by Eight Rodrigo Villordo who was in Columbus to capture the match.
